San Bernardino’s Harvest Fair is two weekends packed full of fun for the whole family. Held each year, this festival has an old west theme, and benefits the Center for Individual Development. Located in Perris Hill Park, guests enjoy activities, food, and performances.

There is never a lack of entertainment at the Harvest Fair. Live country music fills the air, while dance numbers delight everyone on the center stage. Watch professional dancers doing traditional routines, or if you’re lucky, catch Irish dancers doing Celtic numbers. The Old West theme lives on in the daily shows, performed by actors, showing what yesteryear was all about, including shoot outs. You can even meet some long ago characters like Paladin, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, or John Wayne.

No one is at a loss for things to do at the Harvest Fair. Some come back year after year just to enjoy the great food being served. There are also plenty of crafts, both for sale and ones you can make yourself to take home with you. It wouldn’t be a fair without rides, even a real life stage coach you can hop on to get a true Old West feel.

The San Bernardino, California, Harvest Fair is an annual event staged to benefit the Center for Individual Development and services this organization provides for the disabled. The fair is a fun time with activities guaranteed to delight the hearts of all ages as America’s Old West comes alive once again.

Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite Old West character to mingle with re-en-actors around them. Along with old-fashion carnival rides and games, activities include the chance to enjoy a typical Old West town complete with a blacksmith shop, dance hall, and saloon. For adults, this fair proves scenes from TV shows such as “Gunsmoke” and “Bonanza” really happened in the early days, circa 1800s. Boys and girls who enjoy shoot-um-up and dress-up as they play will delight in watching and joining in with the re-en-actors.

No Old West re-en-acting would be complete without lots of country/western music being heard and seen during live entertainment presentations. Guests are invited to bring a tent, circa 1880s or earlier, and join the cowboys around a campfire while enjoying dishes of American, Mexican, and Chinese cuisine. The perfect souvenir is sure to be discovered among numerous items found in vendor stalls.

There are few things as fun as a harvest fair. There are scores of fun activities, rides and crafts. A favorite of many festival goers are the food and drink vendors. There are many different kinds of foods that are only sold at events such as these. From meat to cheesecake, you can find just about any kind of food on a stick.

Harvest fairs are known for having lots of great dancing at the center stage. There are choreographed numbers performed by professional dancers that are either traditional or ancient in nature. Many Irish dances are known for their Celtic roots and their ties to old folk lore.Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here. The same can be said of the dance traditions of many indigenous cultures.

The crafts are all made by artisans that have traveled with the fair from distant locations. There are always some local craftsman, but artwork created by the traveling artisan is always the most interesting. They know that people prefer to buy crafts that are not readily available in their area and travel far to sell them. Some of the best pots and stoneware in the world can be found at fairs such as these, rather than at some store.
